Best Time to Visit

Niagara Falls is most popular from May through October, when warmer weather makes it easier to enjoy viewpoints, boat tours, walking trails, and other outdoor attractions. July and August bring the largest crowds, while May, June, September, and early October generally offer a more comfortable balance of pleasant weather and fewer visitors. Winter is much quieter and can transform the falls into a dramatic icy landscape, although some seasonal attractions operate on limited schedules or close entirely.

Travel Tips

  • Visit early in the morning or later in the evening to experience the main viewpoints with fewer crowds.
  • Bring a waterproof layer if you plan to take a boat tour or walk close to the falls, as the mist can be surprisingly heavy.
  • Allow time to explore beyond the main viewing area, including the Niagara Parkway and nearby walking trails.
  • Check seasonal operating dates before booking boat tours and other outdoor attractions.
  • Consider staying overnight rather than visiting only as a day trip, especially if you want to see the falls illuminated after dark.
  • Niagara-on-the-Lake is close enough to combine with Niagara Falls, but give each destination enough time rather than trying to rush both in a few hours.
